Jennifer Harlin Wilhelm, DVM

For Dr. Jennifer Harlin Wilhelm, making a career choice was simple. As soon as she found out, at eight years of age, that there was a job that allowed you to be surrounded by animals all day, she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian.

For years she begged her parents for a kitten, and when they finally let her bring home a Calico named Nickie in 5th grade, Dr. Wilhelm learned valuable lessons about handling crabby felines. As a high school student, Dr. Wilhelm volunteered at veterinary hospitals, and worked summers in a veterinary clinic most of the summers she was in veterinary school.

Dr. Wilhelm joined our team at Arnold Veterinary Hospital in May of 2015. She attended Truman State University as an undergraduate, completing her BS in Biology in 1997, and gained her doctorate from the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine at Urbana-Champagne in 2001. Her professional interests include soft tissue surgery, preventative care throughout the lives of dogs and cats, and feline medicine and surgery. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association.

When asked what part of being a veterinarian she likes the most, Dr. Wilhelm says: "Seeing puppies and kittens when they are a new addition to the family, and watching them and their families grow and change from year to year as the pet grows up. I also enjoy the problem solving and 'riddles' that are sometimes involved with small animal medical and surgical cases."

At home, Dr. Wilhelm is the pet parent to two dogs named Lilly and Scarlet, and a charismatic cat named Boris. She enjoys spending her free time fishing, riding ATVs, campfires, photography, cooking, the beach, gourmet food, holidays, recreational reading, quiet time alone, fireworks, gardening, travel, and time with friends.
